Snowshoeing in the Viennese Alps
Walking above the clouds through the winter: in the Viennese Alps, snowshoeing on marked trails or with a tour guide is quite the liberating experience.
The snow crunches under your snowshoes, otherwise it is gloriously quiet. In the Viennese Alps, just an hour from Vienna, you can lay the first traces in the deep, undisturbed snow; take a deep breath and discover the unbelievable expanse of Rax, Schneeberg and Hoher Wand.
The snow glistens silently before you and the patches of fog give way to the sunshine. It is glorious snowshoeing on the well-marked snowshoeing routes, provided there is enough snow.
The Rax plateau is a snowshoeing paradise with a cable car, snowshoe rental and an impressive alpine landscape. With the Rax cable car, visitors can reach the high plateau with ease, where you can hire equipment for a reasonable price. A dense network of trails and impeccable signposting make for an excellent alpine experience in the smooth terrain.
The most beautiful snowshoeing routes
Snowshoeing is easy to learn and requires no prior experience. The gentle endurance sport improves circulation and is an ideal alternative to skiing, not only when there is not much snow and the slopes are not prepared. For guided snowshoeing tours there are several specialists in the Viennese Alps who know the current snowfall amounts best and who know the routes like the backs of their hands.
